The Story Behind the Festival:

Srila Raghunatha Dasa Goswami was a wealthy man who had renounced his material possessions to become a devotee of Lord Chaitanya Mahaprabhu. He would often visit Lord Nityananda Prabhu, who was known for his love and compassion for his devotees. One day, Lord Nityananda Prabhu caught Raghunatha Das Goswami trying to secretly offer him some chipped rice and yogurt from a distance. Lord Nityananda Prabhu, who was aware of Raghunatha’s intentions, decided to teach him a lesson. He said to Raghunatha, “You are just like a thief! Instead of coming near, you stay away at a distant place. Now that I have captured you, I shall punish you.”Lord Nityananda Prabhu then made Raghunatha Das Goswami organize a grand feast for all the devotees in the area. Raghunatha Das Goswami was instructed to feed all the devotees with chipped rice and yogurt. The feast was a grand success, and everyone enjoyed the prasadam.
