The festival is also known for buying gold, as it is believed to be an auspicious day to invest in gold and start new ventures. Many people purchase gold jewelry, coins, and bars on this day. It is also a popular day for weddings and other important ceremonies.

There are several significant divine events that took place on Akshaya Tritiya:

  • The day of the Mahabharata: On the day of Akshaya Tritiya, the Pandavas received the Akshaya Patra from Lord Krishna. This divine vessel provided an unlimited food supply for the Pandavas during their exile in the forest.
  • The birth of Lord Parasurama: It is believed that Lord Parasurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born on Akshaya Tritiya. He is known for his courage and for being the destroyer of the Kshatriya dynasty.
  • The beginning of the Treta Yuga: It is believed that Akshaya Tritiya marks the beginning of the Treta Yuga, the second age in the Hindu cycle of time.
  • The day of Sudama’s visit to Lord Krishna: According to the Bhagavata Purana, Sudama, a poor Brahmin, visited Lord Krishna on Akshaya Tritiya and offered him a handful of rice as a gift. In return, Lord Krishna blessed him with prosperity and happiness.
  • The day of Kubera’s worship: Kubera, the god of wealth, is also worshipped on Akshaya Tritiya. It is believed that worshipping Kubera on this day brings wealth and prosperity to the devotee.
