The Swinging Festival of Lord Sri Krishna

Swinging festival of Lord SriKrishna (Jhulan Yatra) is one of the most glorious festival for Vaishnavas is celebrated in the Bengali month of Shravan (August). This festival is dedicated to Lord Krishna and Lord Jagannath. This holy festival commence on the 11th day of the Shukla Paksha (Waxing phase of moon) in Shravan month and ends on Shravan Purnima (full moon). It is believed that Lord Krishna, Radha and other Gopis and Gopas used to swing in the monsoon season in Vrindavan.

During the festival the idol of Lord Krishna is placed on a decorated swing with Sri Radha. The swinging takes place along with Hari sankirtan. All devotees wait patiently in a queue to swing their Lordships. The Swing beautified with beautiful flower decorations, colorful beads, etc. A special flower rope is used to pull the swing. Devotees bring a varity of bhoga to please their Lordships. Kirtana and bhajans go on for almost two hours, and many visitors join in to pull their Lordship’s swing. To please Sri Hari, devotees hold numerous festivals on every occasion and continuously perform sankirtana.

Like Sri Gaudiya Mission, Bagbazar all the sacred places in India, Mathura, Vrindavan and Mayapur are most famous for Jhulan Yatra festival. Jhulan Yatra is a very glorifying festival of Bagbazar Gaudiya Math. All vaishnava devotees are seen participating with full fervor, singing and chanting with Kirtans, hymns with subjugation and playing Mridanga during the event. They were mesmerized in the nectar of devotion and bhakti. Bagbazar Gaudiya Mission celebrate this festival with full of devotion and sublimity.
