It was in the year 1929; on 16th January Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupada started a Gaudiya Math consecrating the deities at a rented house at Doctor Lane, New Delhi. He started this math to get scope to reach the rich and aristocrat society at the Capital of India and propagate the teachings of Sriman Mahaprabhu. Later the math was shifted to a rented house at 45, Hanuman Road, Connaught Place.
On 25th November, 1977 a piece of land was purchase by the Mission and it started constructing a temple. The inauguration was completed in the year 1978 by the divine hands of Om Vishnupada Paramhansa 108 Sri Srimad Bhakti Keval Audulomi Maharaj.
In the arena of the Mahabharata this place was the capital of Pancha Pandava; Indraprastha-was it by name. Recently in the year 2006, the Corporation of New Delhi has named the main road passing by the Math, by the name of Sriman Mahaprabhu ‘Sri Krishna Chaitanya Mahaprabhu Marg'.
