Sri Sri Krishna Janmashtami Mahotsava 2017

Krishna Janmashtami is an annual Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Krishna. It is observed according to Hindu luni-solar calendar, on the eight day of Krishna Paksha in the month of Bhadrapada. Krishna was the son of Devaki and Vasudeva. He was born in an era of chaos, persecution was rampant, freedom was denied, evil was everywhere, and when there was a threat to his life by his uncle King Kansa. Vasudeva took Krishna across Yamuna, to foster parents in Gokul, named Nanda and Yashoda. This legend is celebrated on Janmashtami by people keeping fast, singing devotional songs of devotion to Krishna. The day begins early at the temple the Lord, his beloved and his faithful Avatar are decked in festive splendor. The monks and devotees too are dressed to befit the occasion. Amidst loud chants of the Holy Lord’s name, the dancing choir gets ready to regale their Master.

Gaudiya Mission, established by Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupada in 1918, is the oldest and the ardent follower of the most authentic form of Gaudiya Vaishnavism. At Gaudiya Mission, Lord Krishna is worshipped as the Eternal Source of the universe. Here the only true purpose of life is to attain his boundless love. This is possible only through unalloyed devotion and selfless service to the Lord. The Krishna Janmashtami festival is being held here for over nine decades and this year the celebration enters its 99th year. It is the most important festival in the calendar of Gaudiya Mission and will be observed with due solemnity and grandeur. Under the auspicious guidance of Om Vishnupad Paramhansha 108 Sri Srimad Bhakti Suhrid Paribrajak Goswami Maharaj, the present President of Gaudiya Mission and the Working Committee of Gaudiya Mission in accordance with the Akhil Lokmangal yearly Sri Hari Saran Mahotsab, the auspicious birth anniversary of Lord Krishna and his associates will be organized at Gaudiya Math Baghbazar.

The festival will be month long occasion according to the schedule Program. The auspicious occasion will start from 3rd August, 2017 (Thursday) and go on till 6th September, 2016 (Wednesday). Oration and discussion of Sri Chaitanya Charitamrita and Srimad Bhagbat, discussions on Bhagbat Religion, Sri Hari Sankirtan will be held in the august gathering. Your grand presence along with other well-wishers will be of great pleasure to us. If due to certain reasons you cannot be present personally you could offer ‘seva’ in cash or kinds and get the blessings of the Lord.

  • 3RD August (Thursday): Putrada Ekadashi (fasting) and beginning of Swing festival Jhulan Yatra Mahotsava.
  • 7th August (Monday): Advent Ceremony of Lord Sri Baladev Prabhu.
  • 14th August (Monday): Holy Adhibas day of Sri Sri Krishna Jayanti.
  • 15th August (Tuesday): Sri Sri Krishna Janmashtami (fasting) and Nagar Sankirtan Procession at 6 a.m.
  • 16th August (Wednesday): Sri Nandotsava
  • 27th August (Sunday): Advent ceremony (122st) of Sri Srimad Bhaktiprasad Puri Goswami Thakur.
  • 29th August (Monday): Sri Sri Radhashtami (fasting)
  • 30th August (Wednesday): Srimad Bhagabat Saptaha
  • 4th September (Monday): Advent ceremony (179th) of his divine grace Sri Srila Sachhidananda Bhakti Binode Thakur, the original founder of Gaudiya Mission.
  • 6th September (Wednesday): Prausthapadi purnima & completion of Srimad Bhagabata Saptaha.
