Sublime Festival of Sri Jagannathdeb’s Snan Yatra 2017

Snan Yatra (bathing festival) is celebrated on the Purnima (full moon day) of the Hindu month of Jyeshtha. It is a very glorifying festival of Sri Gaudiya Math, Bagbazar. This festival is celebrated in the appearance or birth day of Sri SriPurushottom-Jagadish. In this holy time SriJagadish, SriBalbhadra and SriSuvadradebi do "Pahandi Bijay" in bath altar with Sudarshan. Uncountable number of devotees visit the temple on the occassion. It is belief among devotees that if they make a pilgrimage to see the deity on this day, they would be cleansed of all of their sins.

On the day of the Snan Yatra, all deities are bathed with 108 pots, of ritually purified water to the accompaniment of religious incantations. The bath altar of SriJagadish is decorated with many pearls, precious stones, garlands, arcades, sacred incense and holy water etc. All dedicated devotees utter "Pabmani" hymn. In the evening, at the conclusion of the bathing ritual, Jagannath and Balabhadra are dressed up in elephant headgear representing the God Ganesh. This form of the God is called the 'Gajavesha'. After the Snan Yatra Lord Jagannathdeb is traditionally believed to fall ill (fever pleasure) to expansion human-pleasure and are kept in a sick room to recuperate in privacy under the care of the Raj Vaidya. During this period known as "Anabasarkal".

There is a doctrine in Bhagbata about "Anabasarkal". In MahaBhagbat Sri Indradyumna Maharaj celebrated the appearance celebration of SriJagadish in Jaishthya Purnima (fool moon day). Lord SriJagadish gave devine command to Sri Indradyumna that no one would visit Sri Lord for 15 days after bath ceremony. This 15-day temple door is closed. This holy period is called "Anabasarkal". At this time due to fever-pleasure of Lord Jagannathdeb "Pachan"(sweet juice panna) is distributed among devotees and thereafter sweets bhog is distributed everyday. This holy festival is celebrated in Bagbazar Gaudiya Mission with all grandeur and sublimity.
